The Australian Disasters Conference 2009 - Surviving Future Risks - is a major national conference, endorsed by Government, to explore the future disaster risk environment for Australia. The Conference outcome is to recommend future ways to enhance mitigation and preparedness measures and build community resilience to meet these new challenges. The four conference sub-themes are: the Changing Face of Crisis Management; Global Warming; the Catastrophic Event; and Recovery. With more than 55 confirmed presenters the Australian and New Zealand Disaster and Emergency Management Conference will be held in Brisbane in April 2012.

The AEMVF, ably supported by the Attorney General’s Department, and the Australian Tax Office, staged the third Emergency Management Volunteers Summit in Canberra on 30-31 May. The themes were “Partnerships, Experiences, Solutions,” and the slogan was: “The Future is in our Hands”.

Federal Attorney-General and Minister for Emergency Management Nicola Roxon and SA's Emergency Services Minister Jennifer Rankine today launched guidelines to ensure that communities in need receive appropriate donations following a disaster. The National Guidelines for Managing Donated Goods was created to give communities clear advice on the most effective way to support the recovery process.
