Daniel Owe-Young

Biography:
Daniel Owe-Young is a Water and Sanitation Engineer who holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental) and a Masters of International Urban Environmental Management. Having completed his education in Melbourne, Victoria, Daniel relocated to Darwin in February 2005 to experience life in the Top End, and to gain greater vocational experience in the delivery of water and sanitation services.

Since moving to Darwin, Daniel has worked as a Red Cross volunteer. He has subsequently participated in Exercise 'Outer Edge', a national counter-terrorism exercise and was a member of the Red Cross Youth Team that travelled to the Tiwi Islands to participate in the 300-year Celebration of the Dutch Landing.

Daniel is currently a member of the Red Cross NT Disaster Response Committee as well as being co-chair of the Division’s Youth and Education Services Advisory Committee.

Daniel says, 'Volunteering for the Red Cross has given me the opportunity to learn new skills by allowing me to communicate with people from different backgrounds and experiences to achieve mutually positive outcomes. It has helped me appreciate the mechanisms involved in planning, organising and responding to disaster events whilst still being involved with community issues.'

The AEMVF, ably supported by the Attorney General’s Department, and the Australian Tax Office, staged the third Emergency Management Volunteers Summit in Canberra on 30-31 May. The themes were “Partnerships, Experiences, Solutions,” and the slogan was: “The Future is in our Hands”.

Federal Attorney-General and Minister for Emergency Management Nicola Roxon and SA's Emergency Services Minister Jennifer Rankine today launched guidelines to ensure that communities in need receive appropriate donations following a disaster. The National Guidelines for Managing Donated Goods was created to give communities clear advice on the most effective way to support the recovery process.
